Grape variety: Gewürztraminer – Alto Adige DOC This Gewürztraminer is made from a selection of grapes from our Kolbenhof estate above Tramin. The vine is named after its home town Tramin and it is precisely in our Kolbenhof estate that it finds the optimum growing conditions to develop its noble characteristics. The Kolbenhof vineyard is one of South Tyrol’s grand crus for Gewürztraminer, thanks to the happy combination of the particular micro-climate, the ideal location and the age of the vines. Soils: clay with gravel and lime Wine-making: The grapes are harvested in small crates, the bunches lightly crushed and cold macerated for a few hours to extract the maximum varietal character from the skins, after which the mass is pressed, clarified by natural sedimentation and fermented at a constant temperature of 20 ˚C. Organoleptic characteristics: A copybook Gewürztraminer characterised almost entirely by fruit. Deep golden yellow in colour with green reflexes, on the nose it is reminiscent of ripe apricot and peach intermingled with exotic fruits such as lychee, mango and passion fruit. The fruit characteristics follow through on the palate enlivened by firm acidity, adding a dimension of elegance and balancing the wine‘s almost over-opulent concentration. Enormous length. One or two years‘ bottle-ageing will enable it to develop even more intensity and complexity. Goes especially well with: This wine is delicious enjoyed in solitude, though it is perfect to accompany shellfish, oysters or foie gras, as well as full-flavoured fish dishes and oriental cuisine.
